What’s a music festival totem? Only a super easy and rad way to make sure you can find your friends in a crowd. Before you go, plan to meet at certain places at certain times, as well as plan to always stand at certain areas of every stage (whether it be right left or center). Once you’ve got your entire preplanned meeting spots arranged, making a totem is the next step in music festival preparedness. A totem is a unique sign that can be seen from pretty far away. This way anyone in your group instantly knows that a bulk of the group is in that section. You can have it be:
1.) Your favorite band: Signs like these help you pay homage to the whole reason you’re in the dessert, showering with baby wipes: The band. Who knows? Maybe the band will see your totem, which would be totally sick.
2) If you’re really creative, it can be something hilarious that draws the attention of pretty much everyone. Fellow festival goers will flock to you for pictures and platitudes like moths to a flame. Let your creative side loose and see what crazy things you and you’re crew can come up with.
3) If you’re feeling super lazy, and super serial killer-esque go on ahead and strap a baby doll to a poll. That will definitely help get the attention of your group, and probably the local police .
Okay, I know what you’re thinking this totem is awful. But did it not get your attention? It totally got mine. This one goes to show you don’t have to over think you’re totem! Simplicity can be your greatest ally. Not saying I’m ok with the baby pole totem, just saying it is light, easy to see, and probably took under five minutes to make. These are all useful aspects when making a totem. Just be sure when using your awesome new totem to not get in the way of other festival goers trying to see the concert, be aware of your surroundings and have a killer time! So go wild, festival goers! Your totem eyes have been opened and the world is yours to create the next unforgettable totem!
