Blue As An Orange was made with wheels, gears, an overhead projector and a screen.

Rabih Beaini’s Morphine Records has announced an album from Pierre Bastien, a French composer noted for building his own robotic musical instruments.

As RA reports, Blue As An Orange was created using Silent Motors, a new project that sees Bastien use wheels, gears, a screen and an overhead projector as opposed to the Meccano of his Mecanium orchestra.

While the album is Bastien’s first release on Morphine, his career stretches back to the 1980s, and has released three records on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, including 2012’s Machinations.

Blue As An Orange is released in November – until then you can hear clips at the Rush Hour site and check out a video of one of Bastien’s earlier contraptions below.

Tracklist:

01. Tin Init
02. Gnostic Illicit Song
03. Edo Ode
04. Oho
05. Dub’s Bud
06. Seven Eves
07. Moody Doom
08. Snide Dins
