Directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz have teamed up to produce a 3D film titled Under the Electric Sky that covers events and performances from the Electric Day Carnival festival of 2013. The film is described as an immersive 3D documentary that explores the allure of the EDM (electronic dance music) phenomenon as told through the experiences of six different groups among the nearly 350,000 festivalgoers attending the EDC 2013 There’s a very happy couple in their 30s, a sweet young woman who suffers from recurrent anxiety, a group of rowdy guys who are attending the festival in remembrance of the death of a close friend and a half-dozen or so good-looking young people participating in group marriage. These stories are also intertwined with music by Dillion Francis, Afrojack, Armin Van Buren and many more.
Starting in Los Angeles around 1997 with a few thousand people, the Electric Daisy Carnival festival has become the biggest event in North America. The festival is mostly known for its amazing firework tactics, costumed performances, and an epic artist lineup. Now in Las Vegas, EDC is represented as “the festival” to attend on every ravers bucket list. For most people the festival is about coming together to have fun while also being accepted for who you are and not what you look like or where you come from.
Dan and Jan were brought together by Insomniac promoter Pasquale Rotella. Their previous credits include such concert documentary hits as Katy Perry: Part of Me and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which grossed nearly $100 million at the worldwide box office. Under the Electric sky can be seen in select theaters across the nation. For now, check out the trailer to get a glimpse of what to expect.
