This is obviously a given and huge part of attending any music festival! You want to be able to make sure you make a great impression on your fellow festival go-ers and maybe even make lifetime friends! Who knows, maybe you will assemble your own little festival attending crew to camp out with for next summers raging festivals!
But first, here’s how to make a great impression out there in the field!
1) Know your limits!
We all have that one point in our lives where we think we’re unstoppable, it’s inevitable! But, if you can learn to overcome that foolishness and realize we’re all human you can take the right step in discovering where your limits are. No one wants to be that naked, paint covered belligerent guy gently swaying in the wind to no music. No one. The key is to know when you’re at your happy spot. Try to keep in mind that a music festival is a marathon, not a race
2) Just talk to people
You’d be surprised at how friendly people will be at these festivals. If you’re all at the same music festival, you all have one giant thing in common: great taste in music! That in itself could be a conversation starter. They key is to just talk to people and not over think it. Also, don’t prejudge people. One of my friends favorite music festival stories involves a man dressed as a giant smurf coming over and messing with the people in his camp. The smurf and my friend still talk to this day. So you go out there and find your giant smurf!
3) Have fun things to trade!
Bracelets, beer, and anything else that might be a fun conversation starter helps. People often forget things they really need while out there, and if you can make trades with people you can gain a solid bond. Just don’t be creepy, or ask for things yourself wouldn’t want to trade. Trying to share cups, or anything else unhygienic like that is completely out of the question you weirdo!
4) Jokes and cool stories are always great
If you have some awesome Burning Man puns, I’m sure everyone there (and me!) would LOVE to hear them. There’s very few people who don’t enjoy some quick one liners, funny and cool stories, or well thought out puns. Don’t kill yourself trying to think of a bunch of silly jokes to drop casually, just tell some of your favorites!
And it’s as simple as that you popular, friend making, beast you! Now get on out there and woo that crowd with your awesome social skills!
